Foiling is all the rage right now and brands are bringing out foils in all kinds of shapes and sizes. One brand has clearly emerged as providing the top of the range foils in our eyes and that is Levitaz. We have been watching them for some time since they partnered with FLYSURFER Kiteboarding (who we have been working with for a long time). The whole team at FS are riding Levitaz. They are also the foil of choice for Steph and Olly Bridge – the UK’s top racers.
The range consists of 3 key models available with different mast configurations. There are different mast lengths available with different mounting systems (deep tuttle or plate). The Element foil is the most recreational model – aimed at freeride and wave. The Aspect 3.0 features the same fuselage and rear wing as the Element – but a much higher aspect front wing which makes it faster. This is aimed at freeride / freerace – a great high performance foil. Finally the Bionic foil – this is designed for racing and high speeds. It uses the same front wing as the Aspect 3.0, but a longer fuselage and a smaller rear wing. This is what the World’s elite racers are using.
The Levitaz modular system is a key part of their success. The foils consist of five main parts that can be conveniently disassembled and stored in the kitefoil bag: the mast, the frontwing, the rearwing, the fuselage, and the plate. While the mast and the wings are constructed from composite material, the fuselage and the plate are made of saltwater-resistant steel. This allows a very slim design, which in turn lowers the water resistance while foiling.
The fuselage, which passes through the mast, connects the frontwing and the rearwing with the mast. The connecting plate ensures a rigid connection between the frontwing and the mast.
Because of its modular design, various front- and rearwings, as well as different fuselage lengths can be combined together. Thus the foil can be adapted to various conditions and can also be disassembled completely, which is especially useful if you travel by plane.
