This weekend saw the first of the 2009 BKSA series. For many years the BKSA have been running the British Kitesurf Championships very successfully and have now taken on board the land side of things. We hoped that with with their established track record they would pull it off and so far so good. Despite difficult weather conditions (very strong wind and heavy rain on and off all weekend) the organisers managed to get the event running well and complete all the rounds.
As a venue Swansea was good. Easy enough to get to and plenty of facilities. The car park at the civic centre provided more than adequate space for everyone to stay comfortably. Having Tesco round the corner was useful too. Town was only a short walk away for evening entertainment too.
The winds were very strong all weekend. You could clearly tell who was confident in the conditions and who was not. The guys and gals in the water were going massive and the land guys showed how much the sport has come on. MBS rider Lewis Wilby came first, followed by team mate AJ Philipsen in second and Nick Austin (who also rides a Pro 90) in third.
The next event with a land competition is in Blackpool on the weekend of 28th 30th August.
Awesome ….Roll on Blackpool !
